Description
This Skill Set is intended to build on existing trade or technical qualifications. It covers the skill and knowledge requirements that may lead to certification against AS ISO 9712 - Level 2 in the following methods:
penetrant testing
eddy current testing
ultrasonic testing
radiographic testing.
The certifying body may impose additional requirements before an NDT practitioner can work in the field. Participants wishing to be certified against AS ISO 9712 - Level 2 should check full certification requirements with the Australian Institute for Non-Destructive Testing or other relevant bodies.
Pathway Information
The competencies can provide credit towards the Certificate III in Engineering - Technical, the Certificate IV in Engineering, the Diploma of Engineering - Advanced Trade, The Diploma of Engineering - Technical and the Advanced Diploma of Engineering qualifications within the Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package.

Target Group
This Skill Set is appropriate for experienced trade and technical personnel such as NDT technicians, quality assurance inspectors and other operators required to conduct non-destructive testing of materials and components using a range of test methods.
The roles, training and experience requirements for NDT operators are defined through a comprehensive range of national and international standards which identify a three level structure. Certification is for a limited period, five years initially, and must be renewed, either on the basis of continuing work experience in the appropriate area or examination. After ten years re-certification is based on examination.
Suggested words for statement of attainment
These units of competence are from the Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package and provide training that may meet the minimum skill and knowledge requirements for industry certification as a Level 2 NDT practitioner.
