This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop, undertake and review a mentoring role. It requires learners to undertake a mentoring program with a mentee.
The unit of competency is applied by individuals who produce a mentoring plan, undertake a mentoring relationship and evaluate the effectiveness of the mentoring program.

Elements and Performance Criteria
Develop a mentoring relationship
- 1.1 Assess mentee’s goals and current level of competence
- 1.2 Determine the roles and expectations of the mentor and mentee
- 1.3 Establish goals and scope of mentoring plan
- 1.4 Develop mentoring agreement and a mentoring plan with the mentee
Undertake a mentoring relationship
- 2.1 Discuss personal experiences and knowledge with mentee
- 2.2 Determine and adjust to changing needs in the mentoring relationship
- 2.3 Provide feedback to mentee on progress
- 2.4 Assist mentee in identifying and analysing problems as needed
- 2.5 Record mentoring documentation according to organisational policies and procedures
Evaluate the effectiveness of the mentoring relationship
- 3.1 Gather mentee feedback on the effectiveness of the program
- 3.2 Evaluate the impact of the mentoring program on the mentee
- 3.3 Review own performance as a mentor
- 3.4 Report on benefits and outcomes of mentoring program
