Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop basic acting skills associated with performing in a single- or multi-camera production environment.
It requires the ability to demonstrate a structured approach to performing a role as an actor, whilst applying and adapting performance skills. Using a structured approach whilst performing a role on screen.
Actors will develop a basic level of expertise in performing to camera through practice of technical skills and rehearsals.
Actors are expected to include acting, dance and voice into the performance, incorporating Indigenous culture and concepts to increase employability outcomes.
The unit applies to film and television actors in the performing arts industry.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
Develop an awareness of film and television acting skills and techniques
- 1.1 Discuss the particular performance styles of film and television with relevant personnel
- 1.2 Research the mechanics of multi camera and single camera production, including camera shots, editing, crew hierarchy, and rehearsal and shooting schedules
- 1.3 Develop and discuss ideas and concepts that apply to film and television acting
- 1.4 Explore various acting techniques and practice acting skills, performing short scenes for film and television
Understand key crew personnel roles and on set procedures
- 2.1 Identify the key crew personnel and their job role on a film, television and screen set
- 2.2 Understand and follow in-venue safety procedures according to OHS requirements
- 2.3 Discuss taking direction from relevant on set personnel with other performers
- 2.4 Recognise and discuss the different requirements of acting for film and television against other performance environments
Prepare for a Screen role
- 3.1 Investigate contemporary Indigenous film and television as expressed through the work of various Indigenous artists
- 3.2 Read and interpret the scripts
- 3.3 Research and prepare for a role in film, television and other digital media
- 3.4 Practice role and adapt technique to incorporate feedback under direction
- 3.5 Participate in a screen test with relevant personnel
- 3.6 Discuss and evaluate own performance in playback
Rehearse and perform roles for film and television
- 4.1 Rehearse scenes and incorporate direction into performance
- 4.2 Develop character in style of role and script for film, television or digital media
- 4.3 Adapt performance and apply time allowances for film and television shoots
- 4.4 Modify performances to meet film and television requirements as considered by the director
