Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to skirt and weigh fellmongered wool.This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision to skirt fellmongered wool, then sort and weigh the skirtings.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.Mandatory workplace requirements apply to the assessment of this unit.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Identify work instructions for skirting, sorting and weighing wool
  • 1.2 Identify workplace health and safety hazards for skirting, sorting and weighing wool
  • 1.3 Control safety risks by using personal protective equipment
2. Skirt pulled fleeces
  • 2.1 Skirt fleeces following workplace health and safety and workplace requirements
  • 2.2 Segregate skirtings following classer's instructions
  • 2.3 Store skirtings following workplace requirements
  • 2.4 Shear large skin pieces as required
  • 2.5 Maintain mob separation of fleece wool
  • 2.6 Select and dry sample fleeces as required
3. Weigh fleeces
  • 3.1 Use scales to weigh fleeces
  • 3.2 Record weights following workplace requirements
