This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a wool pulling machine in a fellmongering operation.This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision in a fellmongering plant, who operate machinery to pull wool from sweated skins.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.Mandatory workplace requirements apply to the assessment of this unit.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Identify work instructions for operating wool pulling machinery
  • 1.2 Identify workplace health and safety hazards for operating machinery
  • 1.3 Control safety risks by using personal protective equipment
2. Operate machinery
  • 2.1 Operate machine following workplace and health and safety requirements and manufacturer's specifications
  • 2.2 Monitor process to ensure the quality requirements are met
  • 2.3 Remove burrs and vegetable matter following workplace and health and safety requirements
  • 2.4 Monitor wool flow to ensure no bottlenecks
  • 2.5 Clean machinery and perform routine maintenance following workplace requirements
  • 2.6 Report any processing issues to supervisor
