Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to sweat skins in a fellmongering process.This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision to fill, operate and empty sweat rooms in a fellmongering premises.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.'Mandatory workplace requirements apply to the assessment of this unit.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Identify work instructions for sweating skins
  • 1.2 Identify workplace health and safety hazards for task
  • 1.3 Control safety risks by using personal protective equipment
2. Sweat skins
  • 2.1 Fold and hang skins in sweat room following workplace and health and safety requirements
  • 2.2 Establish temperature and humidity settings for sweat room following workplace procedures, where required
  • 2.3 Maintain cleanliness of hanging rooms to workplace standards
  • 2.4 Make quality checks on skins prior to removal from sweating room
  • 2.5 Transfer skins from sweat rooms to wool pulling machines
  • 2.6 Maintain mob identification on skins
