Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to pack and dispatch a range of rendered products such as meat meal, blood meal and tallow.This unit applies to those who work under general supervision in a meat processing plant, who pack or store rendered product in containers and dispatch either in bulk or in bags.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety and food safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.Mandatory workplace requirements apply to the assessment of this unit.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Identify work instruction and quality specifications for packing and dispatching rendered product, and clarify where required
  • 1.2 Identify workplace health and safety requirements for task, including personal protective equipment
  • 1.3 Identify hygiene and sanitation requirements for work area
  • 1.4 Identify contamination and cross-contamination and how these are managed
  • 1.5 Prepare packaging materials and consumables
2. Pack rendered products
  • 2.1 Inspect rendered products prior to packing to check specifications
  • 2.2 Pack rendered products using correct packing procedures and effective storage materials, following workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Check packaging meets customer specifications
  • 2.4 Palletise packaged products as required
3. Dispatch rendered products
  • 3.1 Label products following customer specifications, in preparation for storage, sales or distribution
  • 3.2 Transfer products to storage areas
  • 3.3 Dispatch packaged or bulk stored products
  • 3.4 Complete documentation to workplace standards
4. Check quality assurance (QA) aspects of delivery trucks
  • 4.1 Identify quality assurance requirements for trucks leaving the plant
  • 4.2 Undertake QA check of truck following work instructions
