Description
The skill set will give new entrants an initial understanding of the skills and knowledge to work safely in the arboriculture and horticulture industries.

Participants will gain the knowledge to comply with workplace procedures, work health and safety, and codes of practice.
Pathway Information
Students who successfully complete this skill set would be expected to be employed in the industry as a Trainee or Apprentice in one of the following qualifications.

The units of competency provide credit towards the following qualifications:
- AHC20520 Certificate II in Arboriculture (12-month Traineeship)
- AHC30820 Certificate III in Arboriculture (36-month Apprenticeship)
Licensing / Regulatory Information
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020, all persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) have a primary duty of care to ensure the health and safety of their workers while they are at work. This duty means the PCBU must eliminate risks to health and safety so far as is reasonably practicable, and if it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate risks to health and safety, they must minimise those risks so far as is reasonably practicable.

In relation to FWPCOT2254 Maintain Chainsaws, if the chainsaw owner is a PCBU, and the chainsaw is used by a worker, it is the PCBU's responsibility under the WHS Act to provide a safe working environment and to introduce safe work procedures to prevent workers being exposed to hazards. There is no age restriction to using a chainsaw in Western Australia.

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulations and Safety (DMIRS) has issued a Code of Practice for personnel electrical safety for vegetation control work near live power lines (the Code) that necessitates undertaking the unit of competency UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker.
Compliance with the Code is mandatory by Regulation 316A of the Electricity Regulations 1947.

No occupational licensing applies to this skill set at the time of publication.
