Description
This skill set provides the skills and knowledge for those who require radiation protection and site safety training in addition to induction training, prior to undertaking operational, technical, or maintenance tasks in a radiation environment.
Pathway Information
This skill set is introductory and serves as a foundation for those who may become more involved in radiation-related roles. Completion of this skill set contributes to PSP20122 Certificate II in Government.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this skill set at the time of publication.
Target Group
Those undertaking work in mines, construction sites, hospitals and laboratories including:
utility and site service personnel, including electricians, plumbers, fitters, and equipment service technicians
site cleaners and maintenance workers
operators of equipment that emits ionising radiation
those who handle and/or transport radioactive material
those who use radionuclides
those who may work in areas of ionising radiation or equipment that emits ionising radiation.

Suggested words for statement of attainment
This unit of competency from the PSP Public Sector Training Package provides the skills and knowledge for those undertaking work:
in contact with radiation as part of other roles where there is potential for occupational exposures of greater than 1 millisievert per annum,
and
requiring competence to take action to avoid unacceptable exposure to radiation hazards, or to ensure that others are not unacceptably exposed to radiation hazards due to their work.
