Description
The primary objectives of this skill set are to:
1. Equip learners with Work Health and Safety (WHS) skills: To enable them to develop a strong understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and practices, empowering them to identify and mitigate potential hazards, follow safety protocols, and demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices within the creative arts industry.
2. Emphasise safety awareness, the correct use of equipment, and adherence to safety standards in elevated work situations: To equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely work at heights, including identifying potential hazards, using appropriate fall prevention and protection equipment, and following industry standards to ensure personal safety and the safety of others in a work-at-heights environment in the creative arts industry
3. Support Workforce Development: Address skill gaps in the creative arts industry by providing accessible, industry-recognised training to individuals seeking to enhance their employability and career prospects within the creative arts.
Skill Set Overview
This WHS Skill Set will provide comprehensive training in two units of competency:
1. CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry:
Learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of legal safety requirements for employers and workers in the creative arts, including the identification and assessment of various risks, such as physical, chemical, and environmental hazards. They will learn safe work practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe handling of tools and materials to minimise injury risks. The unit also covers the roles and responsibilities of workers, employers, and contractors in maintaining safety standards, along with emergency procedures like evacuation and first aid. Learners will gain familiarity with the Work Health and Safety Act and its role in ensuring safety standards in the creative arts industry, as well as develop communication skills to report hazards and discuss safety concerns with team members.
2. RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights:
Learners will gain the skills to identify and assess risks associated with working at heights, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place. They will gain an understanding of how to use fall protection systems, such as harnesses, lanyards, and guardrails, to prevent falls. The unit also covers how to select, inspect, and maintain height safety equipment to ensure it remains reliable and effective. Learners will understand safe work practices for accessing and working at elevated areas, including how to secure tools and materials to prevent hazards. Additionally, they will be trained on emergency procedures, including proper rescue techniques and first aid in the event of a fall. They will also gain an understanding of the relevant safety regulations and standards, ensuring their work complies with legal requirements.
The skill set will be delivered via a face-to-face model, including hands-on practical workshops and involvement in performances in state-of-the-art venues. Learning materials and assessments will be available to students via the LMS, Canvas. This approach will ensure participants gain the necessary technical expertise and soft skills critical for success in the workplace. Learners will be provided with comprehensive, hands-on training and industry-relevant skills through a combination of practical experience and classroom learning.

These nationally endorsed units of competency provide credit toward the CUA50420 Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services, as well as other relevant qualifications within the Creative Arts Training Package.
Completion of the units CPCCWHS1001 and RIIWHS204E enables learners to meet key safety requirements for entry into creative arts venues and provides them with in-demand skills and knowledge that enhance their employability across the industry.

The Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 (WHS General Regulations) set out mandatory requirements for the provision of construction safety induction training, for a person conducting a business or undertaking ensuring that general construction induction training is provided to workers doing construction work at a workplace in Western Australia
This unit meets the general construction induction training requirements of:
o Part 1.1 Definitions and Part 6.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety Regulations.
o Division 11 of Part 3 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 for Western Australia.
