Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal Cultural Protocols to begin working with Communities, Cultural Knowledge, information and materials.

It requires the ability to identify Cultural Protocols to consult with Aboriginal Community, individuals and with Traditional Owners and/or Custodians of Cultural Knowledge, information and materials.

This unit applies to Aboriginal People who want to work with Aboriginal Communities or access Cultural Knowledge, information and materials.

This unit recognises that there is no single Aboriginal Culture and that Aboriginal individuals and Communities are diverse. Cultural Protocols must therefore be identified according to the local context.

Teachers and assessors need to confirm what terminology is accepted by Local Aboriginal Communities and must demonstrate sensitivity to Aboriginal Cultural concerns.

Aboriginality is a requirement for teachers who deliver this unit because the Cultural Knowledge required will only be known to Aboriginal People.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
